Spike Jonze's heart-breaker is one of the most original near-future sci-fi films of recent times and really taps into the strange loneliness that comes from living in the modern world where everyone is virtually connected to everyone else. Without an actor of Joaquin Phoenix's supreme skill, the pathos and warmth of Theodore Twombly could have become strange and uncomfortable to cope with for the film's two hour running time. Since the film itself earned a Best Picture nomination it would be only logical that Phoenix would be in the running for Best Actor since, like 'Forrest Gump', this is a film all about one person's performance. It may be called 'Her' but is all about him.
