8 Biggest Omissions From The Oscar Nominations 2014

3. Inside Llewyn Davis - Best Film

The latest effort from the Coen Brothers brought T-Bone Burnett on board for a folk music-themed drama set just before Bob Dylan exploded onto the world stage. After much praise and hype the film received only two Oscar nominations and both of those came in technical categories. It seems that the slow groundswell that took Country music film 'Crazy Heart's' Geoff Bridges to victory won't be repeated this year, which is a shame for one nerdy reason in particular; Oscar Isaac would have become the first ever Academy Award winner to be called Oscar. The Coen Brothers' usual high quality and keen eye for period settings is maintained and, while it is not one of their greatest, it is warm, charming, engaging and deserves a place amongst the top nine films of the year.
