8 Books That Need To Be Made Into Movies

7. Damned - Chuck Palahniuk

You might recognise Chuck Palahniuk as the author who wrote Fight Club, which was of course made into a film by David Fincher. Though his debut book is his most famous and widely read work, it should be noted that Palahniuk is one of this generation's most daring, original and genre-bending creative minds, all of his books filled with violence, sex, psychopaths, sociopaths, and the very worst that society has to offer.

Though any of his many books would make excellent films (Haunted, Lullaby, Survivor), the novel getting a shout-out on this list is Damned.

Released in 2012, Damned follows a 13-year-old called Madison who has just arrived in Hell. Not really sure how she died (though she's quick to tell us that it was a marijuana overdose), Madison goes on a journey through Hell, during which she comes across Adolf Hitler, Vlad the Impaler, and more of history's rogues' gallery.

After she finds out she should be in Heaven, Madison decides to confront Satan and end his rule of the Underworld once and for all.

Like all of his books, Palahniuk balances dark comedy, horror and action brilliantly, and Damned might just be the most insane and fantastical of his bibliography. Given the right director, Damned would be an excellent film - a coming-of-age horror with a sprinkle of pop culture references and religion that would appall and amuse without fail. Sounds like a winner.
