8 Characters Who Need Bigger Roles In Star Wars: Episode VIII

3. Captain Phasma

Throughout the promotion for The Force Awakens, Captain Phasma was easily the most hyped new character. She had an awesome costume, an seemingly-important position and her gender played against typical expectations. Fans bought into the hype and were expecting a memorable henchwoman in the mould of Darth Maul or Boba Fett.

Alas, Phasma barely appeared in the film at all. The stormtrooper commander had very few lines and did nothing of note. Fans were hugely disappointed with her insignificance, especially as the film didn't even care enough to tell us what happened to her after Finn subdued her.

One of the biggest points of backlash for the film was the disconnect between what Phasma was promised as and who she actually was. Surely those in charge noted these complaints and won’t make the same mistake twice.

It's not too late either; Episode VIII can still make Captain Phasma the character that we expected the first time. All it will take is for her to display a little more competence, some emotional investment and, more than anything, a bigger role.
