8 Characters Who Need Bigger Roles In Star Wars: Episode VIII

2. Supreme Leader Snoke

If Supreme Leader Snoke is truly meant to occupy the role that Palpatine held, he really does has a long way to go. He's been sold to audiences as the leader of The First Order, yet does nothing in the film to justify that distinction. In fact, beyond his shadowy presence and the delivery of some ominous orders, in The Force Awakens he didn't do anything that memorable.

Actually getting a look at Snoke in person would go a long way to fixing this. It’s hard to really connect with the character when he exists only as a massive projection. His physical presence would definitely make him feel more involved in the plot.

One encouraging sign is that this mirrors the character progression that Palpatine saw in the original trilogy; he also debuted only as a projection before the climactic reveal of his physical form in the finale.

However, if Rian Johnson is going to include Snoke at all in Episode VIII, it needs to be done more effective. Viewers need to be invested in this big bad and terrified by his presence, which just wasn't the case in Episode VII.
