8 Classic Movies Hated By Their Directors

3. Steven Spielberg - Indiana Jones And Temple Of Doom

Temple Of Doom
LucasFilm

Temple Of Doom is by far the darkest entry in the Indiana Jones series, featuring brutal scenes of torture and gore. The tone makes sense since both Spielberg and George Lucas were going through hard times in their personal lives, with Lucas just coming off of a divorce; suddenly, the heart ripping scene makes a lot of sense.

The darkness of the story doesn’t stop Temple being a fun adventure, and some fans even prefer it to the original. One person who definitely isn’t a fan is Spielberg himself, who appreciates that people like it but he personally thinks he messed it up. He finds it “...too dark, too subterranean and much too horrific.”

He feels his personal life at the time affected the movie, and that it revels in the misery too much. He is thankful he met his future wife Kate Capshaw while making it, but it’s his least favourite of the series; that’s right, he thinks Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull is better.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
