8 Classic Movies That Introduced Me To 8 Classic Bands

6. Ace Ventura €“ Cannibal Corpse

Now granted, this came out in 1994, I saw it in the cinemas and I was at the tail end of my outback experiences. But those points aside it doesn't take away the impact it had on me and my teenage musical tastes. In one of my frequent trips to the city I was forced to take after my parents separated, I saw the poster to Ace Ventura and was intrigued. Although I'd never heard of Jim Carrey and his comedy antics, I came to realize that this was that crazy scruffy rocker dude from The Dead Pool and after seeing the preview I threw my money on the counter and said "one ticket please." And not only did I laugh so hard I missed a lot of the jokes initially but the scene with Cannibal Corpse came at me and punched me right in the face. Although I am not a big fan of the death genre, the whole idea of this type of music in a mainstream film (ANY movie that made it into A cinema was considered mainstream to us yokels) was completely unheard of back then and not only that, the opening riff to the now classic track Hammer Smash Face, off their awesome release Tomb of the Mutilated, took me completely by surprise. I made it my mission to find out who this band was by the end of the film. Funnily enough, it actually took me quite a while to locate a copy of their music, simply because a lot of their material was banned in Australia at the time. Luckily I had made some suburban friends by then who had either tapes or bootlegs of their albums. And to this day Hammer Smash Face is still my favorite all time Corpse song. It's just a freakin' HUGE track from a great death metal band that changed my mind on this underestimated (yet bloated) genre. And then, to top it all off, I saw this scene....which just cemented both the film & the bands legacy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iv3HqRJP3w

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
