8 Classic Movies That Introduced Me To 8 Classic Bands

5. Shocker €“ Megadeth

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAfeCViJEK0 Now this one is a little different, as technically it introduced me to two bands. But as a very young child (under 5), I for some reason was totally scared of Alice Cooper and therefore avoided his music like the plague. I actually think a subconscious reason as to why Welcome to my Nightmare was on heavy rotation on my sisters record player was because she knew it scared the bejeesus out of me. So even though he'd already been around for over a decade, I hadn't heard any of his songs. Then came Shocker, a completely underrated gem of a film & one of the best in Wes Craven's filmography. I'd say it's a classic up there with Nightmare AND is so much more entertaining AND a better concept than the Scream"franchise. The front cover of the vhs or beta had a man being fried in an electric chair with the tagline, "No More Mr Nice Guy," and that sounded like an awesome way to escape the drudgery that was a day in the outback when you constantly had nothing to do. Just to drive the point home, it had Dave Mustaine of Megadeth snarling at me about the consequences of having a dog bite his leg and a cat scratch his eye, all as the soundtrack to the visual introduction of that very same electric chair. I instantly became a Megadeth fan, even though it was an actual cover of an Alice Cooper song. With MTV on heavy rotation and the success of the single in the UK, I got to see the clip quite a lot, which also led the way to their original songs that were given the music clip treatment, like In My Darkest Hour, Peace Sells & Anarchy (another cover funnily enough). The seed was set and they eventually became my all time favorite band alongside Iron Maiden.

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
