8 Crazy Pixar Fan Theories
1. The Pixar Universe
Being honest, you probably knew this was going to be number one. It couldn't really be anything else. There are plenty of shared universe theories around, but this is perhaps the ultimate one, such is the painstaking effort and detail that has gone into not only creating it, but updating it with subsequent releases as well. It is, of course, the idea that all Pixar movies inhabit the same universe, and are just a continuation of one long timeline.
It all begins with Brave, in the 14th-15th century, goes to The Incredibles in the 50s-60s, through present day, then thousands of years into the future, and finally loops back round to Brave.
Merida discovers the magic of the will-of-the-wisps, and this allows animals and inanimate objects to talk and develop human thought. However, the magic escapes with a witch through a wooden door, and centuries later it is the cause for superheroes in the world. Then, the creation of the Zero Point Energy in The Incredibles leads to toys coming to life. They become sentient and develop resentment towards humans (such as Jessie for being abandoned by Emily), and this also spreads to animals. So in Finding Nemo we see a fully developed world under the sea, one that humans are ruining with pollution and by catching the fish. Animals begin to become more humanlike, with a rat developing high-level cooking skills.
The animosity between humans and the beings they view below them continues to rise, with Carl and Ellie (Up) writing to Andy (in Toy Story 3) warning of this, hence their planned move to Paradise Falls, and Lotso's apparently villainous behaviour. Fast forward a few years, pollution is worsening, machines are becoming more advanced, and Charles Muntz has created an army of dogs, leading to a war between humans and animals.
Humans won, thanks to the machines, but the world was no longer safe so they were shipped off to Axiom, and only cars are left. Eventually this leads to Earth being a deserted wasteland, with Wall-E attempting to clean-up the mess left behind. At the end of that film, one last plant starts to grow. That becomes the tree in A Bug's Life, which returns life to the planet, and later animals start to evolve into... monsters.
They realise the importance of humans for energy, and use the doors to travel back to human generations. This leads them to Boo, who never gets over meeting Sulley. She knows doors are the key to finding him, and later figures out how to time-travel. She goes back centuries and creates Sulley out of wood, as seen in the witch's cabin in Brave, along with a pizza truck. She then continues travelling through time, unable to control exactly where she ends up, leaving Easter eggs littered throughout all Pixar films.
Somehow, it all makes perfect sense. And if you've managed to follow all that, go check out the website dedicated to the theory, created by Jon Negroni.
