Yoda's great, isn't he? Wise and powerful, he serves as definitive proof that big things really do come in small packages. Fantastic guy, all said and done - a proper hero.

Still, how sure are you about that? The reason I'm asking is because, according to a deleted moment from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, this iconic green fella was just one scene away from being, like, the semi-villain of the entire Star Wars saga.

Seriously: in one notable deleted moment from an early version of Return of the Jedi, Yoda tells a shocked and understandably betrayed Luke: "Obi-Wan would have told you [that Vader was your father] long ago, had I let him.€

That's Yoda pretty much admitting that he's been manipulating Luke for the sum of three films; that behind the scenes, he's been orchestrating events to his own agenda.

Had this been kept in, Return of the Jedi would've been an entirely different beast. And speaking of beasts, Yoda. Yoda, who is supposed to be the greatest Jedi who ever lived or something, revealed to be the person who caused a bunch of unnecessary turmoil and conflict for a young farm boy.

Instead of the flawless Jedi Master, this deleted scene would have rendered Yoda a far more morally questionable individual.
