8 Deleted Movie Scenes That Completely Change Classic Characters
1. Doc Urges Marty To Feel Up His Own Mother; Marty Fears Being "Gay" - Back To The Future
One of the most inherently weird things about Back to the Future's plot is that it requires Marty McFly to temporarily "date" his mother, part of a haphazard scheme to ensure that his parents eventually end up getting together and, you know, conceiving him.
This is rendered as "somewhat amusing" as opposed to "outright creepy" because the film treats it in a largely comical way. We're made to emphasise with Marty's situation, not abhor it, because we know that he really, really doesn't want to get with his mom and isn't at all at ease with the bizarre nature of the situation.
Thank God that one particularly awkward scene was left out of the movie, however - one which would have seen Marty talking about feeling up his mother with Doc, only for Doc to start acting like a creepy pervert, and Marty awkwardly talking about a fear of being gay:
So, yeah, what we have here is a scene in which Doc encourages Marty to "take a few liberties" with his own mother, followed by a wink. Like, Doc winks at Marty, as if to say: "Go on, my son!", knowing full-well that he's talking about the woman who gave birth to the very person he's talking to. Doc was already a slightly questionable guy by way of his friendship with a teenage boy, but this... this isn't a flattering side of the renowned scientist.
Then there's Marty's out of date comment about being "gay," which really doesn't feel natural to this family classic - it seems like a really thing for Marty to say, even in the '80s, and doesn't suit his character at all. Marty isn't that guy. Whoever cut this out made a fantastic decision, and rescued the film from potential "awkward relic" status.
