8 Dick Moves Filmmakers Used To Improve Actors' Performances

3. I Dream Of Jeannie Crew "Forgets" Jeannie Inside A Prop

Having a job that requires you wear weirdly revealing pyjamas and pretend to grant the wishes of all your male coworkers (in the infamously misogynistic 1960s, nonetheless) probably isn't the greatest gig in the world. But do you wanna know how you can make that job title sound even less appealing? Include "being trapped in an oversized bottle" while everyone else takes a 2-hour break. In the Season 4 episode of I Dream Of Jeannie How to Marry An Astronaut, there's a scene where Barbara Eden (who plays Jeannie) is supposed to be trapped inside a champagne bottle, yelling for someone to get her out. To make it real, the director called "lunch" and left Eden inside the prop--where she legitimately couldn't get out - letting her think everyone had actually forgotten about her. They left the cameras rolling and used that take. Again, this is a piece of television about a magical genie who gets trapped inside a champagne bottle... and the director was so worried about realism that he made his lead actress suffer, confused and alone, for two hours.
