8 Disney Theme Park Rides That Were Turned Into Films

2. Tomorrowland: A World Beyond

Tower Of Terror
Disney

While not technically a ride, Tomorrowland is a themed area of land found at all of the main Disney parks across the world. The land, as the title suggests, has an emphasis on the future and technology, with many of these areas featuring rides such as Space Mountain, Autopia and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters.

In 2015, acclaimed director Brad Bird was responsible for the film adaptation of Tomorrowland with the help of screenwriter, Damon Lindelof. Their film boasted an impressive cast and large budget, however despite the star power of George Clooney attached, this tepid adaptation failed to make the desired impact. The film opened to mixed reviews and made a loss for Disney financially.

The biggest crime that the film commits is being extremely forgettable, it feels like a wasted opportunity to turn the property into an interesting franchise which could have explored ideas around the iconic Tomorrowland rides.

It is not without its merits, with plenty of capable performances from the cast, as well as a beautiful score, but overall the film was very flat. It is certainly an interesting concept which perhaps Disney will explore again sometime in the future, but this attempt to launch a franchise sadly failed.

If I'm not talking about films, I'm watching them.
