Imagine the scenario: every so often giant monsters show up in your town or city and just wreck the place, smashing up buildings, setting things on fire and killing your friends and family in order to eat them or cut them up for selling. You'd be pretty pissed, right?

Well, that's the sort of thing Shere Khan has to deal with on a regular basis, and he hates it. He hates fearing for his safety and the safety of his jungle. Heck, he probably knows that substantial enough damage to the jungle's ecosystem could endanger thousands of lives.

So when his neighbours decide to adopt one of these monsters - albeit a young one - he freaks out. He gets angry. After all, they're responsible for so much death and destruction that it's just not worth the risk in letting it remain.
