8 Embarrassing Movie Roles Tom Hardy Probably Regrets
3. Straw - The Reckoning
Tom Hardy starred in this really weird film alongside Willem Dafoe and Paul Bettany back in 2003 - one which you have presumably never heard of. Set in 14th century England, the story hones in on a travelling acting troupe who find themselves caught in a conflict with a small town where a mother has been wrongfully accused of murder. Despite its ambition to be anything other than bad, The Reckoning received mostly negative reviews upon its release. And then there's Hardy's frankly bizarre character, a man named Straw, who the actor plays in a campy, prancing, "hey, it's the villain from Silence of the Lambs" way that is somewhat laughable in retrospect, given that Hardy is mostly associated nowadays with playing super macho characters such as Bronson and Bane and Mad Max. Funny, even. God knows what Hardy thinks when he catches sight of himself in this movie, though: in one scene, he dresses up as a woman and carefully applies some lovely lipstick. Beautiful.
