Though Paul Bettany and Stellan Skarsgard are Marvel Cinematic Universe buddies, the two actors probably aren't on the best of terms. Why? Lars von Trier's 2003 film, Dogville. That's why.

Having later described his time working on the film as "a hideous experience", Bettany revealed that he was coerced into doing it by co-star Skarsgard, who had promised him that the shoot would be a constant party.

Spoiler alert: it wasn't.

"I did it because Stellan f*cking Skarsgard fibbed to me! He said, 'You gotta turn up, it'll be fantastic, it's like a party all the time.' And after three weeks and not one bit of fun, I said, 'Stellan, what were you talking about?' And he said, 'Man, I was making it up – I just couldn't face doing it without you.'"

As it turns out, Skarsgard knew that the shoot would be a disaster, so he roped poor Bettany in to join him, in an effort to make the whole thing a bit more bearable.
