8 Famous Actors Forced Into Roles They Never Wanted

6. Whoopi Goldberg - Theodore Rex

Mystique X-Men Choke
New Line Cinema

With a budget north of $30 million, Theodore Rex is one of the priciest direct-to-video releases of all time, and that's just as well really, because nobody in their right mind would have paid to see this monstrosity on a giant cinema screen.

Fittingly, it had a troubled production that was reflective of the messy nature of the film. For starters, it took six years to get made in the first place, and locking in star Whoopi Goldberg proved to be a much more complex task than it might initially seem.

Goldberg reportedly agreed to be in the film - verbally - in October 1992. Soon after, she attempted to back out, presumably after checking out the nightmarish dinosaur suit she'd have to act opposite. She was then hit with a good ol' lawsuit for this decision, but settled after accepting a $7 million salary - $2 million more than what she initially agreed to.

And the rest is history. Theodore Rex is undoubtedly one of the worst films of the 1990s, and Goldberg is probably thankful that its exclusive home media release meant that less people saw it.

He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
