8 Fascinating Disney Movies That Were Never Made
2. The Gremlins
The Gremlins are characters found in the Roald Dahl children's book of the same name, first published in 1943. Interestingly, the book was actually written by Dahl for Walt Disney Productions, as a tie in for the planned feature-length animated film.
The story told the tale of a bunch of mischievous little creatures commonly blamed for mechanical mishaps. In the book, the Gremlins destroy British aircraft in an act of revenge for the destruction of their forest home, but are subsequently taught to repair rather than destroy.
Though the book did extremely well, copyright issues lead to the project being abandoned. Nevertheless, Dahl's characters have been incredibly influential, inspiring the 1984 Joe Dante film Gremlins and the Twilight Zone episode Nightmare At 20,000 Feet.
