It's clear that this is a film that centres on Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr, about the developments from their past selves to their future selves, and the parallels and differences that James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender can draw between themselves, and Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen, respectively. What if Magneto was to die in the future, though? It could certainly send him down a destructive path, and give Charles even more incentive to find a coexistence between humans and mutants. Why It Could Be True: Charles has already returned for the dead, is it Erik's turn yet? In the trailer, there's a bright light that flashes in front of Stewart's Professor X. That's led many to believe that Charles could meet his end in the future, but that seems a bit rehashed from past movies; plus, we've also seen a clip of McAvoy's and Stewart's Charleses meeting. We know the Eriks never get a chance to. Future Magneto dying would provide exactly the catalyst to spur Wolverine to jump back in time; it would also be a wonderful end - if not permanent - to a fascinating friendship, between him and Charles. Sir Ian McKellen has also hinted this will be his last appearance in the film: maybe that's that for the older Magneto.
