8 Films That Were Made Solely To Hold Onto Rights

5. Children Of The Corn: Genesis

Amazing Spider-Man
Dimension Films

The original Children Of The Corn was based on a short story by Stephen King, and somehow the producers of the series have managed to produce an astonishing eight movies out of it, with another on the way. The first one wasn’t even all that good, and the only notable thing about the sequels is that Charlize Theron made her debut in part three.

They must do really well on DVD, since Dimension saw enough value in the franchise to make a token eighth instalment when the rights were about to run out. Genesis was the result, a cheap and cheerless eighty-minute horror film that tries once again to make corn terrifying.

The film was better received than some of the later sequels, but that’s really not saying much. Another sequel – subtitled Runaway – is due in 2017, and it’s no doubt another excuse to hold onto the rights for another five years.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
