8 Films That Would Make Great Musicals

5. Star Trek

The genre Star Trek inhabits is called "space opera" for a reason. Star Trek's plotlines feature big spectacle, a diverse cast of characters, and true pathos, all of which make a musical adaptation seem like a no-brainer. The crew of the Starship Enterprise is one of the most iconic science fiction casts of all time, their character dynamics a firm part of pop-culture. Their consistent dire predicaments at the hands of Klingons, the Borg, and random alien life are already plenty epic and overdramatic for musical theater - not to mention Shatner's tendency to overact in the original series. Trekkie or not, there is no one who can deny how absurdly enjoyable it would be to see the entire crew lined up on the Enterprise Bridge belting out a "To Boldly Go" anthem - featuring Scotty on Bagpipes. Show-Stopping Number: "The Needs of the Many" - duet between Spock & Kirk in Wrath of Khan's most famous scene.
