Release Date: 5th December The Talent: Kevin Smith (Writer and Director); Justin Long, Michael Parks, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez The Story: Horror-comedy. When podcaster Wallace (Long) goes missing while interviewing a mysterious seafarer named Howard Howe (Parks), his best friend Teddy (Osment) and girlfriend Allison (Rodriguez) team up with an ex-cop to find him. Why We Should Be Excited: The level of excitement that you will have for Tusk is really dependant on your tolerance for Kevin Smith. Once a geek titan, the revered creator of Clerks, Dogma and Jay & Silent Bob, with a dedicated and rabid fanbase, Smith's star has waned somewhat in the last few years. It seems now that large sections of the internet think that he is a bad director whose endless parade of podcasts show nothing of the creator that once was (although Fatman On Batman is pretty excellent, to be fair). So if you haven't watched a Kevin Smith film in years, you'll probably want to avoid Tusk. But if you happened to catch Red State, his horror from a few years ago with John Goodman, this may be cause to be more cautiously optimistic, as that movie saw Smith clearly trying to grow as a filmmaker. Reviews for Tusk upon it's US release were divided. It seemed that critics either loved it or absolutely hated it, but it provoked a strong reaction either way. Perhaps the UK will fall into the "love it" camp?
