Release Date: 5th December The Talent: Theodore Melfi (Writer and Director); Bill Murray, Melissa McCarthy, Naomi Watts, Chris O' Dowd, Terrence Howard The Story: A comedy about a young boy whose parents have recently divorced finds an unlikely friend and mentor in Vincent (Murray), the misanthropic, hedonistic gambling addict who lives next door. Why We Should Be Excited: A grumpy old man who forms a friendship with a precocious latch-key kid sounds like a recipe for overly sentimental cheese, to be honest. No prizes for guessing that the kid learns how to deal with life and the old guy discovers he has a heart of gold in the process! But, whenever this story is told in a wry, knowing manner and stars one of the best curmudgeons in the business in Bill Murray, ably supported by the ubiquitous Melissa McCarthy and the ever reliable Naomi Watts, St. Vincent starts to look a lot more like something that would make a good watch. The movie has already debuted Stateside to strong reviews, with nearly every single one praising Murray's performance and tipping it for awards consideration. Special mention also has to go to Jaeden Lieberher, who plays Oliver, the latch-key kid in question, and whose performance has been almost as lauded as Murray's.
