Release Date: 26th December The Talent: Tim Burton (Director); Amy Adams, Christoph Waltz, Krysten Ritter, Jason Schwartzman, Danny Huston, Terence Stamp The Story: Biopic of 1950's artist Margaret Keane (Adams), whose work was fraudulently claimed by her husband Walter (Waltz) in the 1960's. The film tells the story of their heated divorce trial. Why We Should Be Excited: By our count, this is Tim Burton's first film in many, many years that doesn't star Johnny Depp or Helena Bonham Carter, so that has to count for something right away. It also doesn't seem to conform to his usual Gothic visual aesthetic, and is based on a true story about real people, all of which adds up to a movie to be very interested in. Burton has assembled an excellent cast for Big Eyes. Particular anticipation has to be reserved for Christoph Waltz, a tremendously talented actor who so far has only been utilised to his full capabilities in American cinema by Quentin Tarantino. It will be interesting to see if Burton can coax another excellent performance out of him. The film's Boxing Day release date might initially seem strange, given that a serious drama about a couple going through divorce proceedings might not seem like something the public will want to watch the day after Christmas. However, studios have taken to releasing some commercially viable awards contenders in this slot in the past few years, which would seem to show that the Weinstein's see Big Eyes as having the potential for a big win or two come Oscar night.
