3. Urban Legend
As the title suggests, Urban Legend ties in stories that have been whispered in school grounds for generations, bringing cliches to life in their true campy goodness. Featuring scenes from a plethora of passed-down stories, there's plenty the avid forum lurker will recognise in this collection of fan favourites.
From the tale of a roommate's murder complete with 'aren't you glad you didn't turn on the light?' scrawled on the wall, to the horror film classic of the killer in the back seat, it's all there. Urban Legend cleverly pieces together years of tall tales and crafts a self-aware story from them, boiling down the origin of what we now know as chain mail and creepypasta into something we can see rather than just imagine.
Offering the visual counterpart to fiction we've been exposed to for years is somewhat more entertaining now we've got 20 years of reinforcement to look back on. With the film originally out in 1998, it brought together fiction that friends and family had passed on with macabre joy for generations, transforming campfire tales into reality with a deft touch. It's in this way we already know what will happen, but Urban Legend is all the more fun for playing the stories out in a collective consciousness, turning the entire experience into one gory Easter egg hunt.
