8 Films & TV Shows Based On Internet Horror Stories
2. The Rake
Due to be released later this year in feature length format, the Rake has had plenty of short film offerings in the years since his creation. A pale humanoid-like creature not that dissimilar to Slenderman, the Rake is a more animalistic monster that appears to its victims in the dead of night - either with a warning of their impending death at his hands, or a savage attack should they have not listened.
Created again by the questionable fellows over at Something Awful, the film The Rake will be an early June offering. With plenty of accounts of people receiving visits from the terrifying creature, spanning everything from conversation to sending his victims insane, the Rake is another internet phenomenon that the underground community of amateur horror has more than got on board with.
It's interesting to see just how he's been adapted for screen in so many different ways, with filmmakers finding new and innovative approaches to the monster with each cinematic venture. Between the Rake and Slenderman, there's a clear trend for original, if somewhat strange, monsters to be fan favourites, and that creations that can be interacted with and expanded upon will make their way to the mainstream with alterations from 'writers' the world over. Which is actually pretty nice, if you disregard the tendency for disembowelment everyone seems to have these things.
