8 Franchises With Two Movies That Deserve To Become Trilogies

3. Ip Man

Ip ManThe Movies So Far...Ip Man (2008), Ip Man 2: Legend of the Grandmaster (2010) Ask even a casual fan of martial arts flicks for a recommendation, and you'll probably find yourself plunged into a passionate conversation about the critically-acclaimed Ip Man series, which stars Donnie Yen in two movies based on the life of martial artist Yip kai-Man, who - amongst other badass things - trained Bruce Lee. If you've seen any of the movies in the series, you know they're a hell of a lot of fun, and the action sequences are extraordinary. Which is why, of course, there's absolutely no reason why another movie couldn't be made. Okay, so the sequel wasn't quite as good as the first installment in its action beats and it seemed a little one-note in its premise, but it was still a fine continuation. And with the real life Ip Man's rich history driving the stories, there's still plenty to explore. I mean there's no reason why we couldn't follow this character into old age, after all. Due to conflicts that have arisen on set, plans for the proposed third movie are currently treading water. Fingers crossed it gets resolved soon.
