8 Great Horror Movies With Only One Character

1. The Noah

The Noah is an incredibly peculiar tale, but it acts as a perfect blueprint on how to produce a grand and horrifying movie, with only one living character. Although it was released in 1975, it still holds up to this day as a memorable piece of avant-garde cinema, that plays with some truly scary ideas about isolation and sanity.

This movie follows a career soldier known as Noah, who is played by the incredible Robert Strauss, in his final film performance. Noah is the lone-survivor of nuclear annihilation and is stranded on a desert island, which is the only location untouched by the radiation. Here he strives to stay alive, but his sanity begins to dwindle as he generates an imaginary society around him.

Although the movie only features one character, he fills the world with these imagined roles, which allows for plenty of conflicts to keep the film going. The plot is like climbing a mountain, as it gets progressively harsher as it goes along, and you have to fight to reach the summit.

Additionally, the black and white colouring and inventive aesthetic fully represents the bleak and nihilistic scenario, and makes the film a visual spectacle, despite its minimal approach. The full movie is even available on YouTube for free and is worth your time.
