Nacho Vigalondo's Timecrimes (or "Los Cronocrimenes" as it's known in its native Spanish) is one of those rare hidden gem films that you immediately want to talk about it to anyone who'll listen, desperately urging them to see it before you excitedly reveal the entire plot and ruin it for them.

What starts out as an intriguing mystery quickly descends into complete madness, becoming a thrilling, absurdly comic sci-fi tale of time travel and mistaken identity with a twist of horror for good measure.

The story is revealed through the eyes of protagonist Hector, played by Karra Elejalde, and as the audience we tag along as each piece of the puzzle slowly falls into place.

In the wrong hands, Timecrimes could have been a horribly confusing mess but the brilliant lead performance from Elejalde and the expert direction by Vigalondo hold it all together nicely. A science fiction film that should not be missed.
