8 Gritty Movie Reboots We'd Secretly Love

3. Kermit The Frog

There's been a trend in the more recent Muppet efforts to explore the origins of some of their peripheral cast members. For example, Muppets In Space tried to find out what exactly Gonzo is, and the most recent The Muppets even introduced Walter, the new Muppet and told us of his origins. But what of the amphibian we know the best, does Kermit, a globally loved creation, not deserve his own back story? Premise: Remember how in The Fly, Jeff Goldblum accidentally mixed his DNA with a fly after a teleportation experiment went horribly wrong? Well Jim Henson had that technology nailed down twenty years earlier, except he DELIBERATELY used it to create his beloved Muppets. Kermit was spawned one dark night when Henson combined the felt top from a pool table, a frog, and the recently deceased body of a mild-mannered theatre compere: the result was a lovable, if confused and prone to stress giant frog. Kermit finds it difficult to come to terms with what he is and flees Henson, rounding up all of the other creations every time one is forged by the madman, and finally seeks refuge in an abandoned theatre, looking to give something back from the life of the man killed to create him. Cast: Kermit The Frog (Himself), Christopher Lloyd (Jim Henson)
