Here's a message to horror directors of the 90s/early 2000s. Putting horror villains in space never goes well!

Friday The 13th is an anomaly franchise that created one of the most iconic horror movie characters of all time, yet doesn't seem to have many decent instalments at all. This is especially true of its tenth flick, the sci-fi switch-up, Jason X.

In this movie, Jason gets cryogenically frozen and awakes in the 25th century. There, he is taken aboard a spaceship and proceeds to stalk and kill the crew, all while upgrading himself with nanotechnology, turning himself into a metal-bodied techno Jason of sorts. Um, okay.

The flick ends with Jason being ejected into space and supposedly burning up in Earth Two's atmosphere. But, as fans of the killer already know, you can't count on Jason being down for long. While this sci-fi version of the character wouldn't return in later films, he did jump into literature.

There are multiple spin-off books exploring what happened to Jason after his scuffle with incineration, including The Experiment, Planet of the Beast, Death Moon and To The Third Power. Fans of the metallic Jason X can enjoy watching him murdering throughout the 25th century and even having a son in these - pretty weird - novels.
