8 Horror Films Ruined By Disappointing Death Scenes

5. George Lanter - The Final Destination

The Final Destination is the fourth installment of this consistently outlandish series, and generally considered the weakest. While watching an exhilarating auto race with his friends, Nick O'Bannon (Bobby Campo) sees a vision: a catastrophic accident will devastate the racetrack, graphically killing drivers and spectators alike.

Panicking, Nick is able to leave the stadium alongside his group, as well as other attendees caught up in the ensuing kerfuffle. Nick's premonition ultimately becomes reality and many are killed in the ensuing disaster. As is typical of all films in the franchise, the survivors are killed of one-by-one in a series of freak accidents.

While some are delightfully gory and truly unexpected (one victim is disemboweled by a swimming pool's drain pipe), the death of George Lanter (Mykelti Williamson) is unoriginal and underwhelming.

Completely squashed by a speeding ambulance, George's death should have been shocking, completely taking audiences by surprise. However, George's death is incredibly similar to the demise of Terry Chaney (Amanda Detmer). In the original Final Destination, Terry is unexpectedly killed by a speeding bus. Unlike George's derivative demise, however, Terry's death did genuinely shock audiences.

Given the increasingly creative means by which Final Destination characters meet their grisly ends, this surprisingly unoriginal death really stands out as one the weakest in the entire franchise.
