8 Horror Movie Sequels We Almost Got

3. A Nightmare On Elm Street 6: The Dream Lover

FRIDAY THE 13TH
New Line Cinema

When A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child grossed less than 50% of its predecessor in 1989, New Line Cinema decided the end was near and it was time to kill the beast. The sixth Nightmare would be the last... and it went through a plethora of scripts before hitting the big screen.

One of the front runners was a script by Peter Jackson entitled A Nightmare on Elm Street 6: The Dream Lover. Jackson's script detailed how, much like the real world, the teenagers of Springwood now only saw Freddy Krueger as a joke. Their favorite pastime being going to sleep to taunt and beat the decrepit figure.

The dark tale was unlike the previous, more hokey sequels and much more in line with the original. Ultimately, Freddy finds his way into the dreams of a comatose police officer and uses his state to grow stronger until he's able to kill again.

Jackson's brooding tale was unfortunately abandoned in favor of Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare. This gimmick and wisecrack laden farce did impressive numbers but was ultimately a sad end to previously terrifying villain.

Perhaps The Dream Lover would've offered a more fitting final chapter in hindsight?

Hi! The first thing you should know about me is that I'm a HUGE horror movie nut. A confirmed addict to the WhatCulture Horror YouTube channel I thought I'd try my luck on their writing team. I'm a wannabe author with one completed manuscript submitted to a few agents. Please cross your fingers for me! I am currently working on my second book. If you wanna talk horror or need any movie recommendations, I'm your man! Give me a follow on Instagram... since there doesn't seem to be a section for that in the "socials" tab @that_horror_nerd
