8 Horror Movie Sequels We Almost Got
4. Last House On The Left Part II
The 1980s slasher craze was without a doubt unstoppable with every major and independent studio dashing to cash-in with whatever property they could find. Even a slasher-led sequel to Wes Craven's Last House on the Left almost made it to the screen.
Following the success of Friday the 13th: A New Beginning, director Danny Steinmann was approached by investors at Cannes to write and direct Last House on the Left Part II in 1985.
Steinmann was asked to make the cult classic "current," and opted for a script in which David Hess' Krug returns as a vengeful spirit to kill teens at a nearby summer camp. Turnaround was fast with a print ad announcing the project, Steinmann securing David Hess' involvement and beginning to scout locations in rural Wisconsin.
So, why didn't this project happen? Well, said investors were too hasty in their quest and neglected to secure permission from creators Wes Craven and Sean S. Cunningham, neither of whom wanted a Last House sequel made.
According to the late Steinmann, the cancellation of the project caused him great depression and to ultimately turn his back on his film-making career.
