8 Horror Movie Survivors Who Were Quickly Killed Off In The Sequel

4. Randy Meeks - Scream 2

Wes Craven's Scream absolutely changed the game for the horror genre upon its release in 1996. Taking the meta approach of poking fun at the tired and overplayed tropes that the genre had become so bogged down by in the 1980s and into the '90s, Craven managed to somehow do that while simultaneously delivering a genuinely terrifying movie.

For audiences, Jamie Kennedy's character of Randy Meeks was so often used as an 'in' in that first Scream picture. Randy was the horror-obsessed nerd who spent much of his time pinpointing the cliched plot points of the horror genre - which was a position that so many frustrated horror fans had found themselves in over the years.

With his savvy knowledge and a little luck, Randy managed to be one of the four survivors of Scream. Kennedy would reprise the role for Scream 2, but Randy isn't fortunate enough to share the same Scream 2 fate as his fellow Scream survivors Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers, and Dewey Riley.

After one memorable class-set scene in which he discusses superior sequel films, Randy is soon killed off after deciding to get a little too personal in his insults to Ghostface. It was a great death, and it's fantastic to see Randy return with a video message in Scream 3, but the character's presence in Scream 2 was a fleeting one that caught many people off guard.
