8 Horror Movie Survivors Who Were Quickly Killed Off In The Sequel

3. Karen Davis - The Grudge 2

The Grudge - as in, the US remake of 2002's Ju-On - is a decent, if not unspectacular, picture that was a solid popcorn horror. As for its 2006 follow-up, the less said about that the better.

While The Grudge 2 ended up being a proper stinker of a movie, there was some initial slither of hope that the sequel might be half-good purely for the inclusion of Sarah Michelle Gellar. Having headlined (and survived!) its 2004 predecessor, it was hoped that SMG would at least bring some sort of appeal to The Grudge 2.

For those heading to cinema screens in anticipation of seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar battling twisted supernatural beings, there was a major disappointment waiting to slap them around the face from the off. That slap around the face, of course, would be the fact that Gellar's Laura Davis is easily dispatched by Kayako in the opening act of The Grudge 2.

As Laura finds herself locked up in a hospital, she thinks that the visage of Kayako is merely her own mind messing with her. Only it's not, and The Grudge's one sole survivor ends up launched off a rooftop to her splattery death - with Laura's younger sister Aubrey taking centre-stage for The Grudge 2.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main dayjob, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks, Jamie Hayer, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
