8 Horror Movie Villains That Just Weren't Scary

7. The Lift (De Lift)

De Lift is not a terrible film. In fact, it's actually quite well made and entertaining, for what it is. The titular villain, on the other hand, is far from satisfactory. Just how are you supposed to be scared by a lift, of all things? After all; IT'S A LIFT. If the lift is killing off members of the building in increasingly intricate ways why wouldn't you just take the stairs? The characters in this low-budget 1983 Dutch horror film apparently aren't that smart. It turns out that the whole thing is being orchestrated by the CEO of the building's company with the aid of a super computer. He ends up getting hanged by the microprocessor, which has taken on a life of its own. Director Dick Maas, who also made the much more effective horror film Amsterdamned (1989), helmed the American remake of De Lift known as The Shaft, relaesed in 2001, which interestingly made reference to America being attacked by terrorists and Osama Bin Laden before 9/11. That's about the only interesting thing about it, however, and the remake is not as well-received as the original. The murdering lift is apparently even more lame than before.
