8 Horror Movie Villains Who Don't Say A Word

5. Valak - The Nun

While so many of the nefarious sorts featured elsewhere in this piece have long, lengthy histories that have seen them terrorise the silver screen for decades, Valak is a relatively recent addition to the horror genre.

Like other eerie beings from the shared Conjuring realm, this is a sinister figure whose roots are based in reality. To be precise, Valak is the name given to a demon who has supposedly reared its head at several points in time in the real world.

Also going by the name Great President of Hell, Valak is not to be taken lightly - as we've seen in The Nun after a brief initial appearance in The Conjuring 2. And like the rest of the chilling entities included here, this is a presence that is forever silent.

That doesn't stop Valak being a terrifying prospect, mind, for this demon is all about shock and despair as it appears from the shadows. Where the realms of modern horror is concerned, there is no villain or personification of evil quite as pants-fillingly scary as Valak, and it's now just a case of when and where this presence will rear its vindicate head next.
