6. The Lodge

It ain't easy for a step parent to enter a family. Understandably, kids can be quite apprehensive about this stranger suddenly becoming their guardian, while the adult can worry about over-stepping boundaries.

So, imagine just how nightmarish it would be to play out this scenario while the entire family is seemingly stuck in purgatory together.

I don't mean that metaphorically either, as in the case of The Lodge a pair of kids get stuck with their new step-mother in the titular location, only for it to become clear they've entered another dimension. As a cult survivor, new mother Grace doesn't respond to this particularly well, and the entire family begins to lose their minds, with one of the kids, the young son, even hanging himself.

The finale reveals however that these kids - these seemingly innocent kids - are actually behind the whole thing. There's nothing supernatural afoot at all, and everything has been one big sinister prank to torment Grace for taking their mother's place by capitalising on her past trauma.

Unlucky for them, the little rascals take it too far, and can't snap a too-far-gone Grace out of her delusions even when they admit to what they've done.
