8 Horror Movies You Won’t Watch Once You Know The Truth

1. The Jeepers Creepers Franchise

I'm not gonna lie, I watched the first Jeepers Creepers movie and enjoyed the hell out of it. An unrelenting presence, stalking disposable teens and causing chaos? That's been a successful go-to formula for so many cracking horror pictures over the years.

That was before your writer here found out the story behind Jeepers Creepers director Victor Salva.

You see, Salva's behind-the-camera habits will make you feel sick to the pit of your stomach. The cold, hard truth about Victor Salva is that he was charged in 1988 with sexual misconduct towards a 12-year-old boy who featured in his Clownhouse film.

Salva plead guilty to "lewd and lavish conduct, oral sex with a person under 14," to filming that act, and also to obtaining child pornography. He would be sentenced to three years in state prison - of which he served 15 months.

The victim of Salva's heinous acts has publicly described how the director "spent the better part of a year grooming me and my parents. Developing the trust. It was very calculated, and a long process, as it is with most paedophiles.”

For his part, there's a mugshot out there (which we're not going to share here) of Salva smirking and grinning at all of this. Even worse, the director included jokes about child sex abuse in the original cut of 2017's Jeepers Creepers 3.

If you still feel comfortable watching the Jeepers Creepers franchise after knowing this, you should be asking yourself some serious questions.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main dayjob, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks, Jamie Hayer, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
