8 Huge Captain America: Civil War & Doctor Strange Reveals From D23
5. Captain America And Iron Man's Feud Will Be Akin To A "Sibling Rivalry"
In the Civil War comic book, Captain America and Iron Man develop a strong hatred for each other as their fight continues. While the two former allies become bitter enemies and pull out some arguably quite villainous moves in a bid to take the other down, Anthony Mackie had a different way of describing the feud between the two teams of Avengers which develops on the big screen. " more of a family dispute," he claimed. "The reason people can relate to these characters so much is because they can relate to what they're going through; everybody's fought with one of their siblings or one of their friends, wanted to make up with them, but couldn't figure out the best way to do it and that's kind of how Civil War works." That's a sentiment Chris Evans agrees with, as he adds: "I feel like families, you have more struggles with the people you love because you care about them. You can't leave them, you have to make this work. It just feels like when you have a family dynamic of people that you may not get along with, but you can't just cut them out of your life, that's what makes the stakes so high." The footage shown surprisingly didn't feature Captain America and Iron Man coming to blows, but they do share what sounds like a very tense verbal exchange. Steve and Tony at one point get into a heated argument about the Superhuman Registration Act, with the latter pointing out that the fact heroes operating without any sort of oversight makes them no better than the villains they take on. That doesn't sit well with Cap, and Iron Man responds with: "Sometimes I want to punch you in your perfect teeth." That's not said in the usual playful way by Tony either; in fact, it's been said that he has true "menace" in his voice...
