8 Huge Concerns About Hyped Upcoming Movies

2. The Lego Batman Movie Is A Wasted Opportunity

These days, superhero films are inescapable. They're everywhere. Whether it's the relentless juggernaut of the MCU or the limping, juggernaut wannabe that is the DCU (I know, I know, the box office results speak for themselves), superheroes are permeating cinema like never before.

Which makes it all the more disappointing, then, that The Lego Batman Movie is a thing. No, I'm not saying it looks bad. It doesn't. It actually looks hilarious, and witty, and has a host of fantastic acting talent like Will Arnett, Michael Cera and Roasrio Dawson. But come on...wouldn't anything else be better?

The Lego Movie is one of the most surprisingly inventive animated films of the last decade, showcasing an enormous variety of locations and characters, charming audiences with its faux stop motion style. The potential for unique spin-offs was incredibly high, appealing to fans who grew up playing with the toy. So why go down the superhero route? Again, the answer is obvious: money. But that doesn't mean the decision isn't open to criticism.

Why not a big budget Bionicle film? Or a film about Bionicles alienation from standard Lego society? Why not a film based on the astronaut from The Lego Movie, perhaps following one of his missions into Lego space? There are innumerable iconic Lego sets that would make a terrific basis for a full length film.

Apparently there's a Ninjago movie coming after Batman, which is an exciting premise, but the fact is, two inventive Lego movie spin-offs would be infinitely better than just one.
