8 Iconic Movie Moments You Didn't Realise Were Taken From Other Films

7. Frodo's Rescue In The Return Of The King Reuses A Style From Mad Max 2

The Iconic Moment: Despite being heavily groundbreaking in its own right, over its nine hour plus runtime Peter Jackson managed to throw in plenty of references and borrowed scenes into The Lord Of The Rings. There's plenty of shoutouts to his own earlier work, and plenty of shots One of the lesser known cases of this comes at the climax of The Return Of The King when, after finally destroying the One Ring following a nail-removing confrontation, Frodo is pick up by the convenient eagles and flown away from the erupting Mount Doom. Specifically the shot where he camera holds on Frodo as he slowly loses consciousness during his rescue. The Film It's Taken From: In The Road Warrior (better known as Mad Max 2), Mel Gibson's Max is saved from the mohawked Wez by Bruce Spence's Gyro Captain hilarious flying machine. As he is flown back to the oil refinery, the beaten Max is kept locked in the frame as he flies across post-apocalyptic Australia in an almost dreamlike state before he wakes up in an unknown place. Which is, in both shot composition and circumstance, damn near identical to Frodo's rescue.. If it seems all a bit coincidental, then consider this - one of Andrew Lesnie's, The Lord Of The Rings' cinematographer, earliest jobs was working as the documentary filmmaker on The Road Warrior, making this shot something of a throwback to his big break.
