3. Half-Assed Remakes Masquerading As "Original" Movies

Apparently plagiarism is sort of okay now, as long as you tweak an existing idea just enough so that your average movie-goer can describe whatever it is you've made as... "uh, it's sort of like , but ." That's to say, nowadays movie producers are content with stealing concepts and passing them off as original ideas. This kind of thing happened with
Disturbia (
Rear Window), and
Insidious (
Poltergeist), which semi-subtle in the way it just ripped on another movie, I guess, but it was still just
Poltergeist, wasn't it? Stop doing this, Hollywood. The only thing you're inviting audiences to do is recall the better movies that these things kind of resemble. I'm all for homage (which is not what I'm taking about here), but just re-packaging existing movies that eventually turn out a zillion times worse... it's just low.
