Despite the typically dainty nature of Harley's physical appearance, Robbie underwent extensive physical training in order to convince audiences that a character so slight could still pack a mighty punch.

Robbie spent six months training in gymnastics, boxing, weapons and aerial silks, in order to not only build muscle but also live up to the character's classic stature as an expert gymnast.

Furthermore, she benefited from her own trapeze skills she learned while taking circus lessons as a child.

Better still, Robbie underwent underwater training for the sequence where The Joker crashes their car into a river, and ended up learning how to hold her breath underwater for a staggering five minutes.

And while Robbie had a stunt double on-set for all of her action scenes, she ultimately performed the vast majority of the stunt work herself.

This includes the memorable beat where she battles one of Enchantress' (Cara Delevingne) mutant minions in an elevator and uses the elevator wall to flip backwards over the creature.

That was all Robbie, and it's all the more impressive as she was wearing spiked high heels at the time (as she does for most of the movie).

As is true with basically any film, having the actual actor perform as many stunts as possible adds a visceral quality that, whether the audience is conscious of it or not, makes the action so much more tactile and involving.

Harley isn't typically a character most associated with gruelling physicality, but Robbie put a tremendous amount of effort into toning her slight frame for maximum combat efficiency.
