8 Little Known Tics That Made Michael Keaton's Batman Awesome

2. He Let The Batsuit Inform His Performance

Val Kilmer once described working in the Batsuit as €œinstant old age€; there€™s no peripheral vision, you can€™t hear very well, all of your movements are stiff and you can€™t go to the bathroom alone. Keaton managed to not only work around those limits, but work them into his performance. This results in Batman being very still and precise in his movements, with his eyes doing most of the talking. If he's fighting he€™ll let his opponents come to him, or slowly walk towards them for the intimidation factor As he couldn€™t move his neck to look around he€™ll dramatically turn his whole body, making his poses all the more dynamic. His turn to look at the helicopter in the final act has dubbed by fans as €œThe Hero Turn.€ Keaton is also claustrophobic so initially he hated being encased in the suit, until he decided that€™s how Bruce would feel too. So he used that miserable, depressed feeling it gave him in his performance too.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
