8 Major Batman V Superman Details Revealed By Total Film

4. Ben Affleck's Plan To Direct The Batman

Before Comic-Con, Deadline reported that Ben Affleck was co-writing Batman's planned solo movie with comic book scribe Geoff Johns. He's actually been locked in to direct since agreeing to play the Caped Crusader, though it sounds like it's far too soon to start getting excited about the prospect of seeing this happen just yet. "He€™s got a busy schedule," franchise producer Charles Roven explained when asked about the chances of Ben Affleck taking on this solo outing for Batman in the near future. "He€™s about to start a movie now. And he€™s also got obligations to be in the Justice League movie. The calendar is a little bit tricky. Of course, the script obviously has to be worthy of him wanting to direct it, and once that happens, it€™s still got to fit into the calendar. We€™re hoping we can make it happen. We€™re just at the beginning of the question." That all makes a lot of sense, as does Affleck's requirements for committing to taking the helm of this movie (which, like Man of Steel 2, does not have a release date as of right now). "Look, if I could make it work, yeah, obviously it would be like a dream. The trick is, as to any movie, is to make sure that you- if you€™re going to direct it- that you can make it good. You€™ve got to have the right idea and the right take on it. Broadly speaking, it€™s something I€™d be open to, for sure. It€™s a very exciting idea." So, it sounds like it could happen, but nothing is set in stone just yet. Affleck is no doubt waiting to see how audiences and critics respond to Batman v Superman before committing to the character any further than he already has, and providing that goes well, it's difficult to imagine the filmmaker being unwilling to take the helm of a movie all but guaranteed to gross over $1 billion!
