8 Marvel Actors Who Were Cast In The Wrong Parts

8. Mickey Rourke

Iron Man 2 Whiplash
Marvel Studios

Despite being mostly chopped out in the edit, Mickey Rourke was one of the only things about Iron Man 2 that worked, and even then he was mostly wasted. Whiplash is inherently kind of a lame villain, so while the charisma he brought to the part helped prop up the movie a little, there€™s only so much he could have done.

Rourke was apparently furious at the heavy-handed editing too, feeling they ruined his performance by shifting more focus to the heroes instead; looking at the final movie, it's hard to disagree.

Who He Should Have Played Instead: Thanos

It€™'s a crime to waste a perfectly good Mickey Rourke, and he would have absolutely killed it playing Thanos, because if any actor could convincingly pose a threat to The Avengers €“ or the entire universe, really - it would be an angry Rourke.

Instead, he€™'s stuck with laser whips, a dodgy Russian accent and hair extensions, playing second fiddle to Tony Stark and Rhodey's action comedy double act.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
