8 Marvel Villains Who Could Be More Popular Than Tom Hiddleston's Loki

2. Dormammu

Doctor Strange has been as good as confirmed for a movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after he was name-dropped by Jasper Sitwell in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. If indeed he gets his own movie (or movies), then at some stage we would definitely anticipate Dormammu appearing on screen. A long-standing Doctor Strange foe, Dormammu was first introduced in 1964 and is a terrifying, colossal, enormously powerful mystical entity with a flaming head, spiked armour and a flowing black cape. Essentially, everything about him is awesome. Given that Dormammu also has ties to characters such as Loki, with whom he has formed an alliance in past comics, Hulk and Thor, whom he has battled on numerous occasions, and Odin, whom he has engaged in a game of cosmic chess, his appearance is even more likely. Not only would Dormammu provide ample opposition for the Doctor Strange and indeed any other heroes who would dare to oppose him, he would also be a threat to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole €“ he really is that powerful. He would also look absolutely amazing on screen with modern CGI treatment €“ his intimidating figure and flaming head would just be awe-inspiring. He has thousands of spells to invoke and an army of Mindless Ones to call upon (who are far more formidable than the likes of the Chitauri or Dark Elves, for example, that we've seen so far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe). If a character of his power and appearance could be given life by a top actor, he could become a frightening cinematic icon whose popularity could dwarf that of his fellow magic user Loki.
