While a divisive character among die-hard Marvel fans, John Walker made a lasting impact during his appearance in Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Initially taking on the mantle of Captain America, the US military veteran struggled with the virtuous responsibility of that legendary title and, in a moment of despair after the accidental murder of his friend, Walker used the Captain America vibranium shield to kill a member of the Flag Smashers group - much to the horror of local onlookers.

With his crime going viral on footage shared to social media, Walker was stripped of the Captain America title and called in front of a military jury. He is then approached by the mysterious Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who wishes to recruit John and use his skills now that he’s taken a super-serum that’s similar to the one that turned Steve Rogers into Cap.

Valentina gave John a new uniform and dubbed him the US Agent, a morally grey anti-hero who would do whatever it takes to execute any mission.

In more recent Thunderbolts comic storylines, US Agent has served as a leader of sorts for the group, echoing the role of Captain America with the Avengers.

While actor Wyatt Russell says he’s yet to have confirmation from Marvel about a potential return for Thunderbolts, it’s highly likely he will be back for the project, although the scriptwriters might need to do a lot of damage control to make audiences root for such a divisive character.
